Meet Our St Giles Family: Marco Berna, St Giles Hotels New York

June 8, 2016

From Italia with Love for Hospitality and Travel! Marco Berna, Director of Sales for St Giles Hotels New York shares with us his journey from Italy to New York City and reveals his top recommended NYC experiences.

Naturally, I am a hospitable person, with an Italian flair of course, and I enjoy helping people. After earning my MBA in Italy, I came to New York for an internship at a hotel in the city. I fell in love with the hospitality industry and New York City. I was eager to learn, always giving my best, and constantly looking for ways to improve. I was promoted multiple times and eventually I achieved the American dream when the company sponsored me for a green card!

In 2014 I joined the St Giles Hotels New York family as Director of Sales and have enjoyed every moment - from assisting our guests and industry partners to teaming with my colleagues to deliver exceptional experiences to all our guests.

I am a solar person, I love to travel, visit and explore new places - cities, museums, and restaurants! I enjoy every moment - “Carpe Diem” as the Ancient Romans used to say.

To guests visiting our city, my top recommended NYC experiences are:

Bryant Park - There is always an event in the park: summer movies, free skating rink in the winter, Christmas shops, and concerts.

New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue - There are daily free-guided tours and visitors can view a Gutenberg Bible, one of the first books to be printed in the world.

The High Line Park in Chelsea - Take a stroll in this former rail-line -turned park to the Whitney Museum or the Chelsea market.

Eataly (obviously ;-) - Tons of delicious Italian restaurants and food - Pizza (My favorite is with buffalo mozzarella), espresso, Panini, and gelato (The best pistachio and hazelnut in town!). You can dine on the rooftop (the roof is open in summer) or head across the street to Madison Square Park and admire the art on display around the park as well.

One of my favorite views of New York City is the view from our Penthouse at The Tuscany, especially at sunset. I feel privileged each time I am able witness this view as it is a beautiful and unique experience.
