Get To Know - Mr. Be Lim, General Manager of The Boulevard - A St Giles Hotel in Kuala Lumpur

April 5, 2017

Get to know the head of each St Giles' hotel in our #StGilesGM series! Take a peek into a typical day as they set the tone for your St Giles Experience and get their tips on the best way to discover each #StGilesCity. This week, we catch up with Mr Be Lim, General Manager of The Boulevard - A St Giles Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Take Us Through a Typical Day at Work for You

Each day is different as we traverse between weekday corporate and weekend leisure clientele therefore my areas of daily walkabouts vary throughout the day.

Fixed morning routines at guest experiential points include the main lobby, Wild Rice restaurant, and Executive Lounge where the day must start right. In between walkabouts, connecting with guests on and off is a given to gauge engagement and satisfaction levels likewise with staffs to see how they and their departments are doing. That’s paramount, as figures and stats cannot tell you the daily pulse of the hotel.

Daily operational briefings, team meetings, department heads one on one are the daily norm to cover wide aspects of the job ranging from administrative, operations, human resources, sales marketing to finance and purchasing. Some quiet office time is allocated for reviewing reports, documents and email replies including critical thinking and analysis to set plans for the week or months ahead.

Tell Us One Thing About The Boulevard Most Guests May Not Know

The original draft development plans for the tower that the hotel sits on now, was slated to be an office tower, which gave us two unique features; first a perfect square footprint in which all guest room doors open unto a wider corridor without facing another room on the opposite, and second our Executive Lounge on Level 26 offers stunning 180 degree views to the west, north, and east according our guests vantage line of sight of famous landmarks such as KL Tower, Petronas Twin Towers or even the lights of Genting Highlands hilltop on clear nights.

When at Work, What Makes you Smile

Our collective team efforts resulting in our guests being connected, satisfied, happy, loyal, and telling us " see you all next week" before we get the chance to do so!

And What Quickly Turns that Smile into a Frown

Occasionally not so much a frown but a sigh….when we miss the opportunity that was clear and present for a guest to fully enjoy our St Giles Experience.

The One Guest You Will Never Forget

Our lifetime patron, Mr. Alex Khoo who has stayed with us since our opening. We’ve been privileged to be part in many of his life moments, he stayed as a bachelor, wooed the love of his life at the hotel, got married and held their reception here, and now with his kids and their grandparents, they continue to return here year after year. That's spanning 3 generations now!

When Not at the Hotel, We Can Find You

Usually enjoying sports or spending leisurely time with my family and friends.

Your Recommend Top Things to Do in Kuala Lumpur

So many of Kuala Lumpur's top attractions and activities are quite well known so I will recommend 3 things that are off the beaten track that shows off a blend of cultural heritage, nature and historical arts in our capital city centre.

  • Rumah Penghulu (headman's house) sits on the grounds of Badan Warisan (Heritage Trust Malaysia) at Stonor Road and represents a rare glimpse into a traditional Malay house on stilts that was actually relocated from the northern state of Kedah and restored to its original state. A refreshing cool place to admire its timber works carving.

  • The Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve is an oasis of tropical jungle amongst the rapid development around the capital. You can navigate the easy trails within the reserve to get a feel of Malaysia's famed tropical forest without having to go out to the interiors and enjoy the towering trees, see its natural inhabitants such as monkeys, squirrels, birds or even lucky sightings of reptiles. This nature's gem is located next to the KL Tower.

  • Bank Negara Malaysia's Museum (National Bank of Malaysia) and Art Gallery displays a collection of Malaysian prints, drawings and sculptures. It provides an interesting journey into the economic history of the country with rare coins, documents and artifacts that are featured.
