Dine Out in Penang

March 24, 2016

To many culinary enthusiasts, Penang is the food capital of Malaysia! The cuisine, a mix of traditional Malay, Chinese and Indian cooking styles, offers a delicious range of flavours and dishes. To help you navigate this culinary must destination, our concierge team at The Wembley, Penang have recommended some of their favourite places to eat in George Town.

Kafe Ping Hooi, Carnavon Street, George Town - Our concierge recommends the fried koay teow (flat noodles), which is fried over very high heat with prawns, beansprouts, eggs and Chinese chives.

Cafe, Foothill of Ayer Itam Dam - Enjoy the Assam Laksa - Sweet and sour spicy Fish and noodle soup flavoured with herbs and top with julienned pineapple, cucumber, mint leaves and ginger flower.

Kheng Pin Coffeeshop, Penang Road (near Cititel Penang) - Order the Lor Bak which is minced spiced pork wrapped in soya skin. If you don't eat pork, order fried prawn fritters, bean curd and sliced cucumber. These are served with homemade chili sauce and tapioca starchy sauce.

Ivy's Restaurant, 58 Jln Chow Thyne, Off Burma Road..."You won’t find better Peranakan cooking than in Ivy’s kitchen." Must order: Fish head curry, rendang, and black sauce stewed pork.
